Dynasty Warriors Origins: Optimal Difficulty Setting Guide

by Isaac Apr 20,2025

Despite their hack-and-slash nature, Dynasty Warriors games demand a certain level of skill, and Dynasty Warriors: Origins acknowledges this by providing players with four distinct difficulty settings. This allows gamers to adjust the challenge according to their skill level and experience, ensuring an enjoyable playthrough for everyone.

As a reboot, Dynasty Warriors: Origins presents a challenge for both new and returning players in selecting the ideal difficulty setting. The best choice depends on the player's skill level and their desired level of challenge.

All Dynasty Warriors: Origins Difficulty Settings

Dynasty Warriors: Origins features four difficulty settings, though only three are initially available. Upon starting the game, players can select from Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), and Hero (hard). The Ultimate Warrior (very hard) setting unlocks after completing one of the three factions' main scenarios.

Notably, while there is a Trophy/Achievement for completing a single battle on Ultimate Warrior, there are no difficulty-specific Trophies/Achievements for finishing the main campaign.

Which Dynasty Warriors: Origins Difficulty Setting is Best?

For newcomers to the action-adventure genre or those solely interested in the storyline, Historian is the best choice as it serves as the game's easy mode. Wayfarer is recommended for most players, even those with limited experience in Musou/Warriors games. Dedicated fans of the series may prefer starting with Hero, while Musou masters should consider upgrading to Ultimate Warrior once unlocked to maintain a challenging experience while completing remaining missions, requests, and scenarios.

Players can adjust the difficulty between battles through the config menu without affecting the story, allowing them to find the perfect balance of challenge and enjoyment.

Difficulty Mode Differences in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

In Historian mode, all enemy attacks can be blocked, and it's easier to stagger enemies, gain bravery, and fill the Musou Gauge. Hero mode, on the other hand, increases enemy strength and aggression, shortens the window for parries and perfect evades, and prevents enemies from dropping Meat Buns. It also depletes bravery when blocking, shortens the time to influence battles, and slightly decreases the amount of Skill Points and gold earned. Ultimate Warrior mode intensifies these changes with even tighter parry and evade windows and significantly reduced battle earnings.
