Michael Douglas Unlikely to Return as Hank Pym in Marvel

by Alexis May 23,2025

Michael Douglas, known for his role as the shrinking scientist Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has indicated that he may be finished with the franchise. Douglas, who has graced the big screen in all three Ant-Man films, including the most recent 2023 release, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," as well as "Avengers: Endgame," shared his thoughts on returning for future MCU projects.

Play"I don't think so," Douglas told Deadline when asked about his potential return. "I had the experience, and I was excited to do it." Despite his enjoyment of the role, Douglas has largely stepped back from acting, with his recent appearances being confined to Marvel projects. However, he remains active as a producer, boasting over a dozen credits in this field.

Reflecting on his time with Marvel, Douglas shared, "I'd never done a green screen picture before. But I'm enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life. It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time." He had previously expressed a desire for Hank Pym to meet his end in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," believing it would enhance the stakes for Paul Rudd's Ant-Man. However, Marvel opted for a different narrative path.

The box office results for "Quantumania" have cast a shadow over the future of the Ant-Man series, yet Paul Rudd is confirmed to return in "Avengers: Doomsday." As for the rest of the Ant-Man family—including Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet Van Dyne, and Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne—their participation seems doubtful. In June 2024, Lilly announced her departure from acting to focus on her family, further dimming the prospects of seeing Wasp in "Avengers: Doomsday."

As speculation continues about what "Avengers: Doomsday" will entail, a recent leak from the set has sparked excitement by hinting at the return of a beloved location from "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier."
