Premier Video Game Title Unleashes Fourth Installment

by Grace Feb 21,2025

The next chapter in the Sonic the Hedgehog saga is speeding towards theaters! Paramount Pictures has officially slated Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for a March 19, 2027 release, as reported by Variety. While plot details remain under wraps, the announcement comes on the heels of Sonic the Hedgehog 3's impressive box office performance.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 raked in a remarkable $218 million domestically and over $420 million globally, solidifying its position as the highest-grossing film in the franchise, surpassing the original's $148 million. This success is particularly noteworthy considering the initial controversy surrounding Sonic's original design.

Furthermore, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 claims the title of second highest-grossing video game movie in North America, trailing only the Super Mario Bros. Movie, a testament to the enduring rivalry between Nintendo and Sega on the silver screen.

PlayThe live-action Sonic universe continues to expand, now encompassing three feature films and a Knuckles-centric spin-off series. The films follow Sonic (Ben Schwartz) as he confronts his arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Each installment has introduced more beloved characters, including Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba), with Sonic 3 finally introducing Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves).

While Sonic 3 hinted at another character joining the franchise, we'll keep that a secret for now. For those eager to learn more, our character guide and Sonic 3 review are available for your perusal.
