Frostpunk 1886 Announcement Reveal
Original Frostpunk Remade Using The Unreal Engine
11 bit Studios has unveiled an exciting new chapter in the Frostpunk series with the announcement of Frostpunk 1886, a stunning remake of the original game, now powered by the Unreal Engine. This revelation came via a Twitter (X) post on April 24, sparking excitement among fans and newcomers alike.
The remake promises to breathe new life into the beloved game, featuring a completely new Purpose Path, long-awaited mod support, and more, all while honoring the legacy of the original Frostpunk. In a detailed Steam post on the same day, the developers shared their vision for this ambitious project.
Moving away from their proprietary Liquid Engine, which powered the initial release, 11 bit Studios is leveraging the capabilities of Unreal Engine to enhance the game significantly. Inspired by their experience with Frostpunk 2, developed on Unreal Engine 5, they aim to elevate the first game to new heights. "Our goal is to expand upon it with improved visuals, higher resolution, and all the other possibilities Unreal has to offer," the studio stated.
Eyeing A 2027 Release
Development for Frostpunk 1886 is already underway, with a target release date set for 2027. The team is dedicated to crafting an experience that serves as an excellent entry point for new players into the Frostpunk universe, while also delivering content that will satisfy the series' dedicated fanbase.
Looking ahead, 11 bit Studios has plans for additional content, including potential DLCs, aiming to release games more frequently than their previous schedule of once every five or more years, starting with Frostpunk 1886. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Frostpunk 2, which is currently available on PC and will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S this summer. A significant free update is also on the horizon for May 8, promising more content and enhancements. Stay tuned for more details on Frostpunk 2 and future developments in our upcoming articles.
