Kamiya Eyes Devil May Cry Remake
Remake to Break from 24-Year-Old Design
Remaking classic games has become a popular trend among iconic developers, with titles like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 leading the charge. Devil May Cry (DMC), directed by Hideki Kamiya, could join this list, as he recently shared his interest in reimagining the game.
In a May 8 YouTube video, Kamiya responded to fan questions about remakes and sequels. When asked about his approach to a DMC remake, he said, "I’d love to take that on."
Debut in 2001

Devil May Cry launched in 2001, initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. Its distinct direction led Capcom to develop it as a standalone title instead.
Reflecting on its creation nearly 25 years later, Kamiya revealed the game’s personal roots. In 2000, a painful breakup left him heartbroken, fueling the emotional spark behind DMC’s development.

Kamiya avoids replaying his released games, including DMC. Yet, occasional glimpses of gameplay remind him of its dated design. For a remake, he envisions a complete overhaul using contemporary technology and modern game design principles.
While he isn’t actively planning the project, Kamiya remains open to it. He told Capcom, "If the opportunity arises, I’ll deliver something fresh. That’s my craft." Beyond DMC, he also expressed interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe. These hints have sparked excitement among fans, who now eagerly await potential revivals of these cherished classics.
