Marvel Rivals Shaders Slow Compilation Fix on Launch

by Aria Jan 26,2025

Many Marvel Rivals players are experiencing extended shader compilation times on launch. This guide offers a workaround to significantly reduce this delay.

Addressing Slow Shader Compilation in Marvel Rivals

Game launches, particularly online titles, often involve various processes. However, Marvel Rivals PC players are encountering unusually long shader compilation times, sometimes lasting several minutes. Shaders are crucial programs managing visual elements like color and lighting in 3D environments. Incorrect shader installation can lead to various problems. While the issue isn't inherently due to user error, a community-discovered solution exists.

A Marvel Rivals subreddit user, Recent-Smile-4946, provided a fix that addresses both slow compilation and "Out of VRAM memory" errors. The solution involves adjusting Nvidia control panel settings:

  1. Access Nvidia Control Panel: Locate and open your Nvidia control panel.
  2. Adjust Shader Cache Size: Navigate to global settings and find the Shader Cache Size option.
  3. Set a Lower Value: Select a value less than or equal to your VRAM. Note: Available options are typically limited (e.g., 5GB, 10GB, 100GB). Choose the closest appropriate value to your VRAM.

This adjustment dramatically reduces shader compilation time, often to just a few seconds.

While a permanent fix from NetEase Games is pending, this method provides a practical solution to avoid lengthy loading times. Until an official patch is released, this workaround is recommended.

Marvel Rivals is currently available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.
