While there's no official confirmation of a Persona 4 remake, we now know at least three original English voice actors won't be involved if it happens.
Earlier this week, Yuri Lowenthal, the voice of Yosuke Hanamura, stated on BlueSky he would not be returning for "the Persona 4 remake"—a project that hasn't been officially announced.
"For those asking, no, I will not be reprising my role as Yosuke in the Persona 4 remake," Lowenthal said in a since-deleted post. "I inquired, I may have even pleaded, but they don't want me back."
Since then, two more original cast members have confirmed they also won't return. Two days ago, Erin Fitzgerald, the English voice of Chie Satonaka, revealed she hadn't been approached. Yesterday, Amanda Winn Lee stated she would not be returning as Yukiko Amagi:
Since, I've had several people ask me: No, I wasn't asked to voice Yukiko in the P4 remake

These announcements have led fans to speculate that a Persona 4 remake might indeed be imminent. Rumors have circulated for the past year, with a recent domain registration fueling hopes for an upcoming reveal.
Assuming a remake is in development, the reason for not inviting back the beloved original cast remains unclear. This could be related to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA voice actor strike, or it might simply reflect developer Atlus's standard practice for cost or creative reasons. The studio recast all English voices for Persona 3: Reload, including Lowenthal's role.
However, some fans propose a more unconventional theory: this could be an elaborate marketing campaign. As one fan pointed out on Twitter/X, the actors announced their non-involvement in the exact order you recruit their characters in Persona 4: Yosuke, Chie, then Yukiko.
This is definitely a marketing stunt

First Yosuke
Then Chie
Now Yukiko
They're talking in order of who joins the party in p4. They're definitely in P4 remake. https://t.co/GesYoNva4O
Some on social media have taken this further, suggesting that if either Troy Baker or Matt Mercer (both of whom have voiced Kanji Tatsumi) announces they're not returning next, it would almost confirm all four actors are actually in the remake. While it sounds far-fetched, given Persona 4's themes of rejecting and accepting one's true self, it's not entirely implausible. One idea is that the original actors could be voicing the Shadow versions of their characters, making their initial statements technically true, albeit misleading. Still, most fans consider this theory too speculative, believing it's more likely Atlus simply recast the roles.
With so many signs pointing toward a Persona 4 remake, an official announcement may be coming soon to clarify the situation, possibly at next week's Summer Game Fest or the Xbox showcase.
