Players don't trust ranked in Marvel Rivals and stats prove it

by Alexis Apr 15,2025

Recent statistics about the rank distribution in Marvel Rivals on PC have surfaced on social media, sparking both interest and concern among players. A key point to focus on is the concentration of players in the Bronze rank, specifically Bronze 3. In Marvel Rivals, reaching level 10 automatically places you in Bronze 3, after which you need to engage in ranked matches to climb the ranks.

In typical competitive games, progressing from Bronze 3 to Bronze 2 is relatively straightforward. Game developers often design rank distributions to follow a Gaussian curve, or bell curve, where the majority of players fall in the middle ranks, such as Gold. With this model, players at the edges, like those in Bronze, are gradually "pulled" towards the center as wins yield more points than losses.

However, Marvel Rivals deviates significantly from this norm. The data reveals that there are four times more players in Bronze 3 than in Bronze 2, indicating a rank distribution that is far from Gaussian. This unusual concentration suggests a lack of engagement with the ranking system among players. The reasons for this disinterest could vary, but it's a potentially worrying sign for NetEase, the game's developer. Understanding and addressing the factors contributing to this skewed distribution is crucial for enhancing player retention and satisfaction.
