CD Projekt Red recently confirmed the introduction of fresh locales and monstrous adversaries in The Witcher 4, during an interview with Gamertag Radio.
The Witcher 4 Expands its World with New Regions and Monsters
Stromford and Bauk: A Glimpse into the New Threats
Following The Game Awards 2024, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga spoke with Gamertag Radio’s Parris, revealing exciting details. Ciri’s journey will lead players to unexplored territories on The Continent. The village showcased in the trailer is named Stromford, a place where a disturbing ritual involving young girls is practiced to appease their "god."
This "god," Kalemba disclosed, is a formidable creature named Bauk, inspired by Serbian mythology. Described as a "tricky bastard" by Kalemba, Bauk instills fear in its victims. And Bauk isn't alone; players can expect a host of other terrifying new monsters.
While Kalemba expressed enthusiasm about these new additions, he remained tight-lipped about specific details, promising a completely fresh experience within the familiar setting of The Continent.
A subsequent interview with Skill UP on December 15, 2024, confirmed that The Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, Ciri's adventures will extend beyond Geralt's previously explored regions.
Enhanced NPCs: A More Immersive Experience
Returning to the Gamertag Radio interview, Kalemba highlighted the significant advancements in NPC development. Addressing the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3, Kalemba emphasized the increased diversity and realism in The Witcher 4. The team is striving to give each NPC a unique life and backstory, impacting their interactions with Ciri and other characters. The close-knit nature of a secluded village, for example, will influence these interactions.
Furthermore, CD Projekt Red is enhancing NPC visuals, behaviors, and facial expressions, aiming for a deeply immersive experience.
While details remain scarce, these revelations promise richer NPC interactions and a more believable world. For further insights into The Witcher 4, explore our dedicated article!
