Developer Announces Major Tweaks to REPO's Overcharge and Difficulty Scaling

by Henry May 17,2025

The developers behind REPO are set to enhance the game's experience with significant updates to its Overcharge mechanic and difficulty scaling. These changes are designed to ramp up the challenge and engagement as players progress through the levels. Let's dive into what's coming in the next update and what the developers have been up to during the game's open beta phase.

REPO Development Updates

Overcharge Overhaul

During REPO's recent open beta, the developers at Semiwork gathered valuable feedback from the community, particularly regarding the Overcharge mechanic. This feature enables players to counter enemies by lifting and hurling them onto hard surfaces or away from their team. However, this action isn't without risk; an overcharge meter fills up, and if it reaches its limit, the player will explode.

Originally, the Overcharge mechanic was accessible from the start of the game, but following the beta feedback, it will now be introduced at level 10. Moreover, the developers plan to roll out new difficulty-enhancing mechanics every 10 levels (at levels 20, 30, and so on), with Overcharge marking the beginning of these progressive challenges.

These updates are not just about increasing difficulty; they are also deeply integrated with the game's lore. As Semiwork's team stated, "So this system will be also tied to lore. It won’t be just a gimmick for no reason. There will be something attached to this and we will share more details in the future."

In a unique approach to gather firsthand player feedback, developers from Semiwork participated incognito in random matches during the open beta. Pontus Sundstrom, a developer at Semiwork, expressed his enthusiasm about the experience, saying, "And I've also actually played with a lot of you guys - incognito, in secret, through the random matchmaking in the servers." He further noted, "And I've been asking some questions and finding out what you guys find fun, stuff like that."

With the wealth of feedback received, Semiwork is committed to continuously improving REPO. Players can anticipate more exciting updates in the near future, as the developers have promised to keep the community informed.
