In Elden Ring, the bow has always been a versatile tool, but it’s often viewed as a secondary option—ideal for drawing enemy attention, weakening foes from a distance before switching to your main weapon, or repeatedly farming runes from that one pesky bird. However, when you step into the role of the Ironeye in Nightreign, the bow becomes the centerpiece of your playstyle. This class stands apart from the other eight in Nightreign, offering what might be the closest experience to a dedicated support role available. Watch the Ironeye in action in the exclusive gameplay video below.
One of the first things you’ll notice when playing as the Ironeye is their fragility. While they can wield any weapon they find, keeping a bow equipped is essential for maintaining distance and avoiding direct confrontations, since it doesn’t take many hits to fall—especially early in the game. Fortunately, your starting bow is reliable, delivering solid damage and featuring the Mighty Shot skill, which allows you to strike targets from extreme range, dealing bonus damage and additional poise disruption.
It’s also worth noting that bows have undergone substantial improvements in Nightreign. They now fire significantly faster, and you can move more freely while targeting locked-on enemies. Another welcome change is the removal of arrow inventory management. While this means you’re limited to the arrow type your bow comes with, it eliminates the worry of running out of ammunition during a crucial boss encounter. Other refinements include a new roll-and-shoot animation, acrobatic actions like running up walls and firing mid-leap for flair, improved mobility and aim in third-person view, a strong attack that unleashes a three-arrow spread for crowd control, and the ability to perform backstabs or visceral attacks with arrows on downed enemies. Essentially, every feature that was missing to make the bow a viable primary weapon in the base game has been thoughtfully implemented in Nightreign.
When you’re playing as the Ironeye in Nightreign, the bow is the heart and soul of the class.“
The Ironeye’s signature ability, Marking, is a rapid dash-and-strike dagger move that passes through enemies and applies a debuff, increasing all incoming damage they take. With a short cooldown, you can maintain this effect on bosses consistently by monitoring its duration. It also serves as a valuable mobility tool, allowing you to phase through enemies and escape tight situations.
The Ironeye’s ultimate ability, Single Shot, lives up to its name—a devastating single projectile. Think of it as Mighty Shot amplified. Although it requires a brief charge time, you’re completely invulnerable during the animation. Once released, the shot deals massive damage and penetrates almost everything in its path, making it exceptionally effective for clearing groups of enemies.
What makes Ironeye shine on a squad is how good they are at reviving allies from a safe distance.“
Where the Ironeye truly excels in team play, however, is their ability to revive fallen allies from a safe position. In Nightreign, when a teammate falls, a segmented circle appears above their character. Attacking your downed ally gradually depletes this circle; once emptied, they are revived. Most classes must risk close-quarters combat, expend mana on ranged spells, or even use their ultimate to attempt a revive, but the Ironeye can accomplish this safely from afar and without resource cost. This capability is incredibly valuable and can often determine the success or failure of a run. The trade-off is that each time an ally falls, an additional segment is added to the revival circle. While the Ironeye excels at reviving allies who have fallen once or twice, they may struggle when three segments are required, as their long-range damage output isn’t sufficient unless they dedicate their ultimate to the task.
Although the Ironeye may not match the raw damage output of some other classes, their impact on a squad is undeniable. From their Marking ability that boosts overall team damage, to a passive skill that increases item discovery for all members, to an ultimate that clears mobs efficiently, and their unique capacity for safe, long-range revives, the Ironeye’s utility is virtually unrivaled among the Nightfarers.
