Capcom's latest title, despite achieving impressive online player counts (currently ranking 6th on Steam), is facing significant backlash due to widespread performance issues. Digital Foundry's in-depth analysis of the PC version confirms these criticisms, revealing a deeply flawed technical implementation.
Their testing uncovered numerous problems. Shader pre-compilation times are excessively long, ranging from 9 minutes on a 9800X3D system to over 30 minutes on a Ryzen 3600. Texture quality is disappointingly low, even at the "High" setting. Significant frame rate stuttering is observed even on an RTX 4060 at 1440p with balanced DLSS, a problem exacerbated by poor texture quality even on a more powerful RTX 4070 (12GB).
8GB GPUs require a reduction to "Medium" texture settings to alleviate stuttering, yet visual fidelity remains suboptimal. Rapid camera movements consistently trigger noticeable frame time spikes, although less severe with slower movements. Crucially, these frame time issues persist regardless of texture quality.
Digital Foundry's Alex Battaglia attributes the core problem to inefficient data streaming, placing excessive strain on the GPU during decompression. This heavily impacts budget graphics cards, causing pronounced frame rate drops. He strongly advises against purchasing the game for 8GB GPU users and expresses reservations even for higher-end cards like the RTX 4070.
Performance is particularly abysmal on Intel GPUs, with the Arc 770 delivering only 15-20 frames per second, alongside missing textures and other visual artifacts. While high-end systems can partially mitigate these issues, smooth gameplay remains elusive. Optimizing settings currently proves near impossible without significant compromises to visual quality.
